PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry takes a serious view of bullying incidents involving students at a school in Johor Baharu published in YouTube a few days ago and reported by a Chinese newspaper yesterday.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the investigation is being conducted to identify the actual events.
"We will investigate until we can answer about what really happened, including the identity of the student. We also ask that schools and states to give a report of what actually happened.
"I also ask the relevant authorities including the District Education Offices (DEO), State Education Department and schools to monitor what is happening and we do not want this to be rampant," he told reporters after opening the Tan Chong Group Bowling Championship here today.
According to newspaper reports, the video clip shows the girls involved, known as "Big Sister", slapped it in front of the school's other students.
The newspaper also says Big Sister then lit the cigarette and give 'talks' to victims, which seems to cry, to be noticed by her school friends.
Wee, who is also MCA Youth chief, said parents play a vital role in ensuring that bullying does not happen in school.
He said parents should always monitor and know the children's activities to ensure they are not involved in unhealthy activities when they leave home.
"The relationship of parents familiar with the school is very important and should be emphasized. Never in the event of disciplinary action taken against the student, then (parents) want to continue to question the teachers' school.
"Identify any previously sentenced for children, no children at home quite orderly behavior, but at another school she temperament, we must look for the good of parents as well," he said.
A total of 288 participants from the Tan Chong Group employees participated in a bowling tournament itu.-Bernama
